Reflect on the Day

“There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.”

– William Shakespeare

Now we are ready to assess if the activities and choices of our day work for us, or not and identify ways to make it better and easier tomorrow.

Step 4: Considering the plan you had for yourself and how the day went, did thing go well overall? Rate your day from 1 (no wins to celebrate) to 4 (lots of wins to celebrate).

  • This is a great opportunity to celebrate yourself and every win. Pat yourself on the back, smile out loud, tell someone about your wins. Every single one is important and counts.
    • Taking these actions reinforces to our brain that is a desired choice.

Step 5: Considering the plan you had for yourself and how the day went, were there things that didn’t go as planned? Rate your day from 1 (no ‘fails’ to identify) to 4 (lots of opportunities to do better).

  • Finding opportunities for improvement is a win! This is the only way we will get better.
    • Once we find the opportunity, the faster we move on the better.

Step 6: Considering the plan you had for yourself and how the day went, can you identify opportunities for improvement tomorrow?

  • We end the daily assessment by summarizing and reinforcing any lessons learned that we want to test out or implement in the future to get things done better / faster / easier.
    • Doing this regularly lets us actively plan better in the future, but also is planting seeds in our unconscious brain that will also work to implement identified improvements.

“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.”

– Maya Angelou
