My Work

Having a career is important to many women as it gives a sense of self-accomplishment, personal fulfillment and financial independence. However, the juggling act between managing a career and other aspects of life can often increase stress and compromise physical and emotional health for many women.

While finding the “perfect balance” between work and other aspects of life is an unrealistic expectation, prioritizing HOW you spend your energy at work can help to free up time for other activities that nourish your soul and re-energize you, such as spending time with family / friends, doing regular exercise, or engaging in a hobby or activity.

I.Liv. uses the My Life Work Quad to help you to prioritize the efforts spent on work responsibilities and career development. As part of your daily I.Liv practices you will get to plan and reflect on your top efforts (a.k.a. Rocks) in support of your work and career, rather than plan to do *all* the things that can be done or are asked of you.

I.Liv will help you to:

  • Identify WHAT are the most important and value-add work and career development activities that will help you to achieve personal and professional success;
  • Recognize HOW you spend your effort in your professional lives, career development and acquiring wealth overall.
  • QUANTIFY the size of the energy/effort you give to work and career development.

Some examples of Daily Rocks you might allocate to your My Work Life Quad include:

  • Top Priorities: e.x. time sensitive and value add activities; daily operational things to get done; escalations to be handled
  • Upcoming / Near Term Priorities: e.x. priorities coming up next week or month
  • Longer Term Priorities: e.x. career development planning; skill development planning; quarterly and annual activities.

Daily I.Liv practices will help raise your awareness about work and career so that you can be intentional in your actions and behaviours. Some important considerations to help you plan and prioritize My Work are:

  • Is perfection getting in the way of progress? Can you lower your expectations and be ok with just doing your best with the resources you have?
  • What is the return-on-investment (ROI) of this activity? Does the value delivered justify the effort?
  • Can I establish boundaries to avoid taking on extra burdens outside my area of responsibility?
  • Am I investing in the right relationships to achieve success? (e.x. building relationships with champions / mentors who believe in you and your efforts; coaching team members to help them develop and thrive)
