Relationships are cornerstones of a living a balanced and fulfilled life, but not all are created equal.
Relationships are the cornerstones of building a balanced and fulfilled life. We live every day in connection to the people around us. How we show up for the people in our life impacts our well being and the well being of those around us.
When we apply Intentional Living to our relationships, there are many benefits, including spending more quality time with those we value the most and less energy on relationships that have a low or negative value in our life.
I.Liv uses the My People Life Quad tohelp you to prioritize the efforts spent on people and relationships. As part of your daily I.Liv practices you will get to plan and reflect on your most important efforts (a.k.a. Rocks) in support of people and relationship. This will help you to:
- Identify WHO are the important relationships in our life, including your Immediate Circle (e.x. spouse/partner; children; best friend), Intermediate Circle (e.x. close family, friends, mentors) and Extended Circle (e.x. colleagues, neighbours, teammates).
- Recognize HOW we spend our efforts on the people and relationships in our life; and
- QUANTIFY the size of the energy/effort we give to people and relationships in our life.
Some examples of Rocks we might allocate to My People Life Quad include:
- Spending quality time with the VIPs in our life: e.x. family bike rides; Sunday dinner with our parents; lunch with a close colleague; walk with a friend
- Acts of care and nurture: e.x. making dinner to provide and set us up for family time; taking care of elderly parents / sick relatives.
- Maintaining important relationship: e.x. date night with significant other; girls’ night out; lunch with parents; brunch with mentors
- Building new relationships: e.x. dating; attending networking events for professional connections; making new connections with neighbours / other families within your community.
Daily I.Liv practices will help raise your awareness about how you spend energy and effort on the people and relationships in your life so that you can be intentional in your actions and behaviours.
Some important considerations to help you plan and prioritize My People are:
- Who in your life is most important to you? Is this relationship for a season, reason or a lifetime?
- How do you think, feel and do in your current relationships. Does the relationship bring or drain energy?
- What relationships are the most important in encouraging and supporting you to become the best version of yourself now and in the future?
- How do you best show up for the important people in your life?
